Huggum’s Hero Award

The CCAA is grateful to all its partners and want to recognize each and every one of you for everything you do for us.  Usually, we thank you with a beautiful wall plaque.  In addition, we have created a very special award to be presented each year at our Public Safety Advocacy dinner. This is called our Huggum’s Hero award and it consists of a ‘half human size‘  and smaller desk size bronze sculpture of Huggum Bear, the official Child Abuse Prevention Bear.

The large bronze Huggum’s Hero bear statue will be awarded annually to recognize a partner whose commitment to CCAA has gone above and beyond the call of duty. The sculpture will reside in the corporate office or home of the Hero until the next year’s Hero is celebrated. The desk size bronze replaca belongs to the Hero for life as a continuous reminder of our esteem for him/her.

In 2008, the CCAA honoured Steven H. Wise, Chairman – KRG Children’s Charitable Foundation, as our first Huggum’s Hero.  Steven is a businessman, entrepreneur and philanthropist, and we thank him for his considerable contribution not only to CCAA but also to several other children’s charities.  Steven Wise is dedicated to raising awareness and funding for children facing obstacles. Whether a physical challenge, mental disability, emotional or educational need, the KRG Children’s Charitable Foundation is committed to enriching the lives and experiences of children.CCAA’s 2009 Huggum’s Hero Award went to Patti Falus – Founder and CEO of Barter Network Ltd. With over a decade of experience in barter, Patti Falus is a recognized expert in this multi-billion dollar industry and sits on the board of the National Association of Trade Exchanges. Patti’s energy, enthusiasm and passion for delivering oustanding service and value remains the cornerstone of the brokerage and in 2004, she was awarded Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year in the ‘Start-up’ category. CCAA depends heavily on the Barter Network for product and services that allow us to help victims of abuse. In 2009, Patti accepted an appointment to our Board of Directors and we are proud and excited to honour her for her considerable contribution to making the world a safer place for our children.

This year, CCAA honoured the Canadian Armed Forces and Police Services for their contribution toward the safety of all Canadians.
