Every Donation has a Purpose
Helping Survivors with a Fresh Start.
Abuse Hurts supports individuals escaping violence by providing essential items to help them rebuild. In 2020 alone, we supported over 8,000 people and distributed 26,000 items like clothing, linens, and small appliances.
When we receive more than we can give directly, surplus donations are sold in our storefront. The proceeds help us purchase urgently needed items we don’t have on hand—so nothing goes to waste, and everything goes toward hope.
Who Can Donate?
Everyone! If you have high-quality items you no longer need, we’ll ensure they find a second life where they are genuinely needed.
Donation Process
A little planning goes a long way.
A little planning goes a long way. To keep our team and warehouse safe, donation drop-offs are by appointment only. Donated items are accepted on Mondays and Wednesdays between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm (30-minute time slots). The items should be:
- Packed in small to medium clear garbage bags.
- Label the bags clearly “DONATE”
- Group similar items together whenever possible (e.g., shoes, linens, clothing, etc.).

What we can accept:
- New socks and undergarments
- Like-new clothing (no hangers, please)
- New bedding and bath linens
- Shoes, boots and belts (please bag and label separately)
- Small household appliances in clean and working condition
- Kitchenware (dishes, pots, pans, utensils, glassware)
What we can’t accept:
- Furniture, unless it is pre-approved.
- Dirty, broken or incomplete items
- Used pillows, duvets, or mattresses
- Used or opened toiletries or undergarments
- Toys, books or baby gear
- Cracked or chipped kitchenware
- Used water bottles.
Need a Pick-Up?
We offer limited home pickups by approval only. Pick-ups for used clothing and household items may be available on Mondays or Wednesdays, depending on your location and the nature of the items.

NOTE: To be eligible for pick-up, specific requirements must be met, which can be discussed when we contact you. Items not eligible for donation will not be picked up. Pick-ups are currently only available in the York Region area.
